Sometimes, being a good person does not require recognition. It simply means choosing to do the right thing.
A wallet left behind in a taxi reportedly led to an unexpected act of kindness by a Thai taxi driver known as “Pla-Kao,” who drove more than 30 kilometers back to Laem Chabang to return the belongings to an American passenger.
According to reports, Pla-Kao picked up an American passenger in Pattaya and drove him to the Laem Chabang area in Chon Buri Province before continuing to pick up another passenger.
The next passenger noticed a wallet left on the back seat and informed Pla-Kao.
After realizing that the wallet belonged to the previous American passenger, Pla-Kao reportedly tried to contact the owner through the ride-hailing platform before continuing communication by phone and WhatsApp.
He then made an important decision.
Pla-Kao reportedly turned his taxi around and drove more than 30 kilometers back to Laem Chabang to return the wallet.
Reports said he was concerned that the passenger might have to continue his journey without important documents, his phone and cash, and therefore wanted to return the belongings as quickly as possible.
After receiving the wallet, the American serviceman and his friends reportedly gave Pla-Kao US$40 to help cover his fuel costs.
But the most meaningful part of the story was not the money.
The decision to drive back was made before Pla-Kao knew whether he would receive anything in return.
The incident reportedly took place during the visit of the USS Abraham Lincoln to Laem Chabang from September 2–6, 2026, when approximately 5,000 U.S. personnel were involved in the visit to Thailand.
Details surrounding the wallet’s return and the reported US$40 payment have so far appeared in public reports, but further confirmation from Pla-Kao, the wallet’s owner or the original source would be needed.
If the story happened as reported, Pla-Kao may not have done anything extraordinary in the eyes of the world.
He simply chose to do what he believed was right.
Sometimes kindness does not begin with a grand gesture.
There is no stage.
No applause.
And sometimes, no one even knows what you have done.
There is simply a moment when you have to decide:
Help — or walk away.
Pla-Kao chose to help.
Because sometimes, you do not need to announce that you are a good person.
