Thailand’s women’s national volleyball team has secured its first Olympic qualification in history, defeating China 3–2 in the 2026 Asian Championship final in Tianjin on August 30 and earning a direct place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Thailand won the five-set final 25–20, 11–25, 23–25, 25–18 and 15–10, recovering from a 2–1 deficit to take the Asian title and the Olympic berth. The Olympic Council of Asia described the result as a historic first for Thai women’s volleyball.
For Thailand, the result carries unusual national significance. Women’s volleyball has built a large domestic following over several generations, but Olympic qualification had remained out of reach. The 2026 Asian title therefore marks both a continental championship and a long-awaited breakthrough onto the Olympic stage.
