BANGKOK — Thai schools are tightening security after the deadly 7 August shooting at Debsirin Nonthaburi School.

Schools in Bangkok have begun checking students’ bags and belongings, while authorities have ordered stronger weapons screening, tighter visitor controls and increased security.

The measures follow an attack in Nonthaburi in which authorities said a 14-year-old student killed his grandparents before attacking the school, leaving multiple people dead and more than 20 injured.

Thailand’s response has expanded beyond individual campuses, with school safety elevated as a national priority alongside tighter firearms controls and emergency-preparedness measures.

For foreign families living in Thailand, the change matters because stricter entrance checks and visitor controls may increasingly become part of normal school procedures.
