ที่ผ่านมา ธนบัตรไทยมีการเปลี่ยนแบบและออกธนบัตรรุ่นใหม่อย่างต่อเนื่อง โดย ธปท.เผยแพร่ข้อมูลธนบัตรแต่ละแบบและหลักเกณฑ์เกี่ยวกับการแลกเปลี่ยนธนบัตรไว้อย่างเป็นทางการ (Bot⁠)

แต่หากในอนาคตมีมาตรการเรียกธนบัตรรุ่นเก่ากลับเข้าสู่ระบบจริง การเคลื่อนไหวดังกล่าวย่อมถูกจับตาอย่างมาก เพราะเงินสดก้อนใหญ่ที่ถูกนำกลับเข้าสู่ระบบอาจต้องผ่านกระบวนการตรวจสอบตามกฎหมายที่เกี่ยวข้อง

🔥 Thailand’s financial sector is being shaken! Two series of 1,000-baht banknotes, reportedly around 20–30 years old, with a combined value of approximately 140 billion baht, have not returned to the financial system through normal circulation. The issue is now drawing intense attention.

The enormous figure has sparked discussion about “Demonetization” — a policy under which certain banknote series could lose their legal-tender status, potentially forcing cash held outside the formal financial system back into circulation and allowing authorities to examine the sources of funds more closely.

If Thailand were to adopt such a measure, holders of the affected banknotes would have to exchange or deposit them under conditions set by the government. This could increase the authorities’ ability to trace financial flows, particularly funds potentially associated with money laundering, corruption, illegal businesses, or unexplained sources of wealth.

The key issue is therefore not simply where the cash is, but why such a huge amount of banknotes has failed to return to the normal financial system.

Thailand has repeatedly introduced new banknote designs and series over the years. The Bank of Thailand (BOT) publishes official information regarding banknote series and procedures for exchanging banknotes.

If authorities were to introduce a measure requiring old banknotes to be returned to the financial system in the future, the move would attract intense scrutiny. Large amounts of cash brought back into the system could potentially be subject to financial and legal checks.
