Miracle at Sea! French Father and Two Sons Rescued off Koh Samui
SURAT THANI, Thailand — 14 August 2026 — A 50-year-old French tourist and his two sons, aged 12 and 9, were rescued alive off Koh Samui on Friday morning after spending the night at sea when their rented jet ski failed to return to Chaweng Beach.
The family disappeared on the evening of 13 August, triggering a search involving district officials, police, rescue teams and local jet-ski operators.
The search was suspended overnight because of strong winds and waves, then resumed after daybreak.
Rescuers later found all three alive near Koh Mat Lang. Their jet ski was partly submerged, while the father and his sons were wearing life jackets. They were taken ashore for medical checks.
The exact cause has not yet been confirmed. Authorities are investigating the incident and have called for tighter jet-ski safety measures, including stricter licence checks and possible tracking devices.
The rescue has renewed attention on marine-tourism safety at Koh Samui, one of Thailand’s best-known destinations for international travellers.
