According to Norway’s Royal Court, King Harald died at 6:35 a.m. on August 28. His son, Crown Prince Haakon, immediately succeeded him and became King Haakon VIII.

According to a statement published by the Office of the Defence and Army Attaché, Royal Thai Embassy, Beijing, Colonel Siwat Rattan-anant, the Thai Army Attaché and Acting Defence Attaché in Beijing, signed the Book of Condolences at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Beijing on Wednesday, September 2, at 10:00 a.m.

The message conveyed Thailand’s deepest sympathy to the Norwegian people and expressed respect for the late King’s royal service and compassion.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Norwegian military attaché in Beijing.

King Harald V had reigned since 1991, succeeding his father, King Olav V. He was Norway’s third monarch since the country became independent from its union with Sweden in 1905.

International condolences have followed his death. China’s Foreign Ministry also expressed deep sympathy, highlighting King Harald’s contribution to friendship and cooperation between China and Norway.
