Drama in the heart of Bangkok! A major fire broke out inside Khlong Thom Center, Worachak Road, Pom Prap Sattru Phai District, Bangkok. The blaze raged for several hours, causing severe damage to the building and the partial collapse of its structure before authorities were able to bring the situation under control in the early morning.
🚨 Fire Erupted at 8:42 PM and Spread Rapidly
The incident occurred on 28 August 2026 at 8:42 PM, when the Rama 199 Radio Center received a report of a fire inside Khlong Thom Center. Firefighters and rescue personnel from Suan Mali arrived at the scene at approximately 8:45 PM.
The fire was found to have originated on the first floor, an area occupied by shops, before spreading rapidly and forcing authorities to mobilize firefighters from several fire stations to bring the situation under control.
At 9:12 PM, flames had engulfed the area. Later, at 9:27 PM, explosions were heard intermittently, and at 9:35 PM, the building’s internal structure began to collapse, making firefighting operations extremely difficult and dangerous.
🔥 The building housed numerous shops containing electrical equipment, plastics, electronic devices, and other highly flammable goods, allowing the fire to spread rapidly.
However, the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation by forensic authorities, and the cause cannot yet be conclusively determined.
🚒 Firefighters Battled the Blaze Overnight — Fire Brought Under Control at 5:32 AM
Although firefighters managed to partially control the blaze before midnight, the fire flared up again, forcing crews to continue spraying water throughout the night.
At 5:32 AM on 29 August 2026, reports confirmed that the fire had been brought under control, with no fatalities reported.
The Erawan Center initially reported a total of 11 injured people. Among them, one volunteer firefighter who suffered smoke inhalation was classified as critically injured, another person was classified as a semi-critical emergency case, while the remaining nine sustained minor injuries.
🏥 Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Deploys Medical Teams to Support the Public
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is preparing teams of doctors, nurses, and multidisciplinary professionals to provide both physical and psychological care for residents, business operators, and others affected by the incident.
Meanwhile, the Pom Prap Sattru Phai District Office has opened registration for those affected by the fire so they can enter the assistance process.
⚠️ On the morning of 29 August, the Bangkok Governor said that some hot spots and smoke remained in the area.
Business operators were warned not to enter the building to inspect their property at this time, as the structure remains at risk of collapse.
Authorities are preparing to deploy heavy machinery to clear debris so that firefighters can spray water directly onto the remaining hot spots.
The fire represents major damage to one of Bangkok’s long-established commercial districts, while authorities continue investigating the cause and assessing the full extent and value of the damage.
