The U.S. aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln is expected to make a port call in Thailand after an unusually long deployment that included operations linked to the Middle East conflict.
A Thai official told Reuters that the ship, carrying roughly 5,000 sailors and Marines, would visit Thailand for rest, recuperation and logistical support. No joint military exercise has been announced as part of the stop. AP separately reported that three U.S. Navy vessels are expected to call at eastern Thailand.
Thailand is a longstanding U.S. treaty ally, making the visit strategically notable, but the available evidence does not indicate a new permanent basing arrangement.
