Thailand is preparing for another period of widespread heavy rain, with the Thai Meteorological Department warning that rainfall will increase across the country from August 29 to September 2, including heavy to very heavy rain in some areas.

The latest warning, issued as Notice No. 2, highlights northern Thailand, the upper Northeast, eastern parts of the Northeast and areas exposed to the southwest monsoon.

The department said the monsoon trough is expected to move across northern and upper northeastern Thailand toward a strong low-pressure area near northern Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin, while the southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand remains relatively strong.

Authorities warn that accumulated rainfall could trigger flash floods and forest runoff, particularly near waterways, mountain slopes and low-lying areas.

For international travellers in Thailand, the warning is especially relevant to overland travel and visits to flood-prone or mountainous areas. Travellers should continue checking official weather and local transport updates before moving through affected areas.

The warning is a forecast and does not mean flooding will occur everywhere covered by the alert.
