15 September 2026, 10:31 a.m., according to VietnamPlus’ publication time — At the National Assembly Building in Hanoi, To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of Vietnam, together with his spouse, presided over the official welcoming ceremony for His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Her Majesty Queen Suthida, who are making a State Visit to Vietnam from 14 to 16 September 2026.

The ceremony was conducted with full state honours. The national anthems of Thailand and Vietnam were played, while a 21-gun salute was fired from the Thang Long Imperial Citadel area.

His Majesty the King and President To Lam then inspected the guard of honour before proceeding to talks between the Thai and Vietnamese sides.

Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of Thailand, also travelled as part of the Thai delegation accompanying Their Majesties during the State Visit. VietnamPlus, operated by the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), clearly listed Anutin among the senior Thai officials accompanying the royal delegation.

The visit marks a major milestone in bilateral relations, as it is the first State Visit by a Thai King and Queen to Vietnam since Thailand and Vietnam established diplomatic relations in 1976. It also takes place in the year marking the 50th anniversary of Thailand–Vietnam diplomatic relations.

High-level exchanges between the two countries have intensified in recent months.

President To Lam visited Thailand in May 2026.

Prime Minister Anutin paid an official visit to Vietnam in June.

Thailand’s President of the National Assembly visited Vietnam in August.

The sequence of high-level visits reflects increasingly close engagement under the Thailand–Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
